Hi, I have a unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and I would like to share my experiences with.

Japanese and Input Based Learning: Starting out

So I always wanted to learn Japanese since I was in middles school. I loved anime and manga during that age and I still do. I tried the traditional method to learn Japanese for 8 years and got nowhere (of course I studied off and on). Why wasn’t I learning anything? I found out it was the technique I was using. The traditional method just don’t work. There are many people who take foreign language classes in high school and in college and aren’t able to understand the language they studied.

Recently, I was searching for method to learn languages and came across Steve Kaufman’s videos on youtube (his channel’s name is lingosteve) where he talks about Input Based learning. I tried it with Spanish and I saw more results in my one week of studying than in my 3 years of Spanish in high school. I was excited that I found the secret to learning a language.

The Input Based Learning method (IBL) is almost the complete opposite of the traditional method. Instead of learning how to speak the language. You learn how to read and listen to the language first, and after your reading and listening ability strengthen then you speak which will come naturally. Another difference in IBL is that it don’t focus on grammar. Its main focus is on words. Grammar has the ability to confuse the learner plus it can be overwhelming.

I postponed my study of Spanish in order to study the first language I wanted to learn Japanese (I might try studying them both at the same time :D). The first day using IBL I picked a Japanese website that interest me, and read it. Of course I had to use the dictionary a lot, but I was learning so many words. Now on the fourth day I don’t have to use the dictionary as much (but I still use it a lot, it is only the fourth day of study). Traditional methods don’t offer this kind of result.

In 2 week I will give another post of my progress with Japanese

The Placebo Effect: It’s pretty fuckin’ weird.

I love Documentaries like this that have a good speaker and a nice way of presenting the info. Placebos are amazing.

If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. It’s the hard that makes it great.

All I want to be is a Computer programmer.

So, I made the decision to follow my passion, and after a lot of time procrastinating. I finally discovered what it is. I love computers. It is a natural interest for me. I remember being a little kid and touching computers. It was almost magical.

My first computer was awesome. I explored different programs, surfed the internet, learned BASIC, and did other stuff.

I was about 15 when I first started messing with computer programming. I loved making programs for those TI-84 caculators, so i could be more efficient in math class.

And now at age 20 I decided that is what I want to do with my life. 5 years of unproductiveness went by to finally realize my passion.

Since now I know (and knowing is have half the battle), I have to hone my skills.

!!!!!I WILL BE A COMPUTER PROGRAMMER!!!!!

Farming Job: an Idea that failed. :((((

So earlier this month I was talking about how there are all these farming jobs open. That is still true, but they are really hard. Unless you are used to working in the field you won’t keep up.

I worked 3 days which totaled 9 hours then quit. I didn’t quit because it was too hard. I quit because I couldn’t keep up with my coworkers. They moved too fast. Plus they were going to fire me for sloppy work, anyway. I hate being checkmated, so I tipped my king and took the next bus ride home.

I wasn’t intentionally doing sloppy work. It was either be sloppy or fall behind.

But all in all, I had a epiphany while doing that work.

Which was: Follow your passion. :D

Don’t waste your time in college, Plz

Unless your degree is in science, technology, engineering, or math. Your degree will basically be useless. If the main job of people with your degree is to reteach the stuff you learn. Your degree is worthless.

In high school college recruiters came to my school all the time trying to get you into dept. They say when you graduate there will be a job waiting for you. They say you will make a million dollars more in your lifetime than a non grad, but How true is that?

I say that liberal art degrees are stupid because, It is something you can study at home for less cost than then college tuition. “But I need a structured program to follow.” I say if you don’t have the drive to learn something on your own, You are not going to be great at it anyway.

Please avoid liberal art degrees, law degrees, business degrees Unless you are getting it for free or at a really low price. Avoid loans, plz.

Go to a technical school, and learn a real trade. Plz

A college degree is worth nothing if everyone else have one.

Where are the Jobs? Become a farm worker you say.

So I am looking for a job, and lets just say I am not the most active looker. I hate going to stores and getting these replies.

  • We aren’t hiring but you can fill out a application.
  • You have to fill out the application online.

So I went to the department of labor, and actually found out there are a couple places that are hiring a ton of people. Yes, Farms have a ton of job openings (in Georgia, check your state dol to see about your state).

I don’t know much about the law that Georgia passed, but they passed something that made illegal immigrants flee from there jobs, and now they have 1000’s of available positions.

Most farms have housing available for workers, and they pay about $9/hr. You have to buy your own food and cook it. They provide transportation each week for you to go into town to get stuff you need. No Experience Needed!!!

This is back breaking work though, and you have to work in the sun. And the work is seasonal.

I figure this will be a nice change of pace. So I am applying for it.
